Mariam Seshan
Former EnvisionPEACE Initiatives Member- ArtPEACE
Student at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA
Through volunteering in her local community programs, Mariam was motivated to pursue peacebuilding and leadership opportunities.
She believes that listening and communicating are crucial for those in leadership positions, skills which she learned through being part of debate and Model United Nations. These skills also helped her in coaching for a Haley Smith’s girls’ basketball team and volunteering in ‘Buddy Ball’, a basketball program for children with disabilities. Being a Muslim Asian American, she understands that an important part of peacebuilding is focusing on common ground and celebrating differences. She advocates for peace through graphic design, which she creates using Photoshop and other graphic art software. In her artwork, she incorporates themes focusing on diversity, advocacy, and inclusion. Using these themes, she designs merchandise which can be found on Amazon Merch. Some of her artwork has also been featured in her school’s art fairs. She is looking forward to being a part of LeadPeace, where she can bring her prior experiences and gain new ones. Mariam’s hobbies include playing basketball, watching movies, coding, exploring Photoshop, and spending time with friends and family.
